In search of any relatives related to MICHAEL KERN. He was the area's first
leukemia victim and died when he was about 12 years old in Allentown's General
Hospital . I was in the hospital room with him and gave him blood to help him
live alittle longer. I believe his family was from Kreidersville and he had
6 or 7 sisters. I hope anyone out there will past the word around that I'm looking
for them. Please have them e-mail me. I wish all the best for everyone in 2002.

Wow, from reading this guest book it seems that nothing ever goes wrong in
Northampton. It appears to be a perfect little town with "Leave it to Beaver"
style neighborhoods and sunny days all the time. Well, I think I'm gonna burst
a few bubbles. Before I moved to Philly in '97 I lived in Northampton my whole
life and despite all of the other posts on this site about how "wonderful" this
town is I beg to differ. In one year I lost two of my friends in your town to
heroin and I now fear that many more of your youth are following them down that
path. The problem with small towns like Northampton is that they never like
looking at their problems. Northampton only recognized it had a drug problem
when Cheerleaders and football players started getting hooked (see 4/99 Northampton
Chronicle). I was absolutely disgusted when I read the paper and the one school
official made it sound like the town only worries about kids if they are involved
in sporting activities (it seems that if you don't play sports Northampton doesn't
care if you overdose on smack). If you think I'm over reacting how come you
supply your high school football players with huge fields, and cheerleaders,
and practice space, and equipment, but to those kids who just want to skateboard
all you give them is cops? It's like your telling them that their not welcome
in the streets and that their better off sitting in a basement doing drugs.
I'm sorry about this rant but I'm tired of hearing little towns rave about their
environment when their kids are suffering. You teach them to be little middle
class consumers from birth. The only community they know is the mall (which
is not only unhealthy it's socially dangerous) and the only thing seperating
them from complete social apathy is a strong sense of materialism (also dangerous).
I visit Northampton once in a while, I think about the friends that I have lost
because the wonderdful "community" you talk about doesn't seem to extend to
youth (atleast it doesn't extend to youth who don't wear helmets and violently
run into each other). (also, if you check online, nationally, Northampton High
School ranks very low on overall performance. In fact, it ranks below that of
some inner city schools here in Philly. Hmm, I wonder if your wonderful little
town puts more emphasis on sports rather then academics?) At any rate, I'm sorry
for this rant, I'm guessing the ever so powerful web master will censor it shortly.
I just felt that I needed to let you all know that there is another opinion
out there. If anyone wants to further this discussion with me feel free to email
me at Bkayal@aol.com or check out my site at: www.bradkayal.com

Just stumbled over the Northampton site. What a pleasant surprise. I've lived
in the borough my entire life and would never think of leaving Main Street.
I'm proud to call Northampton "home." Summer evenings on my front porch, chatting
with neighbors walking by, knowing everyone you meet at Redners, or the Atlas
hotel, viewing the famous "Jack Frost Parade" with friends & family every October,
waiting for the Memorial Day parade to pass each May, these are all such dear
memories I will forever cherish. Northampton is a great town, with great schools.
I LOVE the novelty street lights that decorate our town for the holidays. Every
holiday I hope that the lightpost in front of my home gets chosen to be one
of the lucky decorated ones. Those decorations are a 'shining' example of how
proud we are of our little town. KUDOS to the borough employees who created
them. I am anxious for the plans to all come together for the downtown district
between 19th & 21st Streets. Hopefully one day, our Main Street will be booming
again, like it did back when Lerners, Colemans, & Millers thrived. Thanks for
the opportunity to blow my horn, about our great little town!

First I'd like to comment about Northampton, what a great place to live.
Remembering back to when I was a kid how the shopping on Main St was, the sidewalk
sales? Like our older generations say the GOOD O'L DAYS. The only thing thats
missing from your Web Page or did I miss it, what happened to the mention of
our various VETERANS ORGANIZATIONS?? It would be nice to list them with your
organizations & groups link. Well if not they are; Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Post # 4714(Main St & Laubach Ave) Catholic War Vetarens, Post # 454(15th &
Washington Ave.) Fred A. Snyder American Legion Post # 353 (15th & Dewey Ave.)
For those checking out this web page and might be visiting our town or possibly
moving here stop by 14th & Washington Ave. and see the monument dedicated to
the veterans of WWI (doughboy statue) and the recent addition of the Wall of
Honor dedicated to the Veterans of all Wars. And if your lucky enough to be
in Northampton for Memorial Day, stop and see the parade and service at the
Memorial Plot it will be a experience you'll always remember!!

Our classic car club, Jersey Cruisin' Classics, accompanied by Cruisin' Classics
of Chester County (PA), attended "Rediscover Northampton 2000" on October 15th.
The Mayor, Fire Department, people of Northampton, and particularly Ron Lokay,
can be proud of your gracious hospitality and the outstanding event you put
on this past weekend. It was truly enjoyable, and it was great to get back to
Northampton. I'm originally from near Egypt, PA, having left in 1959 to join
th U.S. Navy. Northampton was our big town for shopping, movies at the Roxy,
food and fun. It is refreshing to see the effort to restore Main Street, and
to keep "Northampton on the map!" We came with 18 classic cars from up to 100
miles to the South and East to join the show. Our congratulations to the town,
and to the show's organizer, Ron Lokay, for a most professional event. Keep
up the good work. We'll be back! By the way, Northampton's Web Site is as good
as they get. Tom McAvinia, LCDR, USN-Retired For Jersey Cruisin' Classics and

The house is perfect for me and my 14 year old son. He will be starting H.S.
in September and I went onto the web to see if I could get some information
on the town and school. This sight has given me some insight that is positive.
I would appreciate some feedback about the high school and area for teens. My

on this home without him. Any feedback would be welcome. Thank you.

I have wonderful memories of growing up on Main St. in Northampton(NHS'72):
running down to Sinatore's for bread and milk and treating myself to a chocolate
marshmallow ice cream cone;shopping at Lerner's,Coleman's,Miller's and Newberry's(what
a pity that all but one of those buildings are gone); having a cherry coke and
stick pretzels at the M&N; or going to the basement of Miller's where you could
get a coke from the soda machine for 5 cents, a real deal even then; sunday
matinees at the Roxy, often after benediction; daily visits to the post office,
where everyone knew your name; stopping in at Rudy's Market with my fellow OLHers
to load up on penny candy; hanging out at Bob Kosc's; summer days at the swimming
pool; winter days at Devil's Hill; exploring at the creek; the occasional visit
of King to the OLH schoolyard; the Minstrels; living next to the Water Company;
and so many more great memories, but most important was having my grandparents
and family close by, and lots of great friends and neighbors, too! I had a great
childhood growing up in Northampton.

To the guy from "down south": you got it wrong, Brad Creyer is the successor
to the mayor post for the village of Kriedersville. It's not really an elected

a position is vacant until such time that someone declares it.

Met him at the covered bridge festival when I was passing through the area recently.

I see the disclaimer above (my 1st one because of me). I will not use my
name for posts because I am a business owner in the borough and do not want
any special treatment because of my posts. I do have a Hotmail account to field
replies. I will never be offensive. I will raise questions... Don't get me wrong,
I love this town. I went to school here and lived my whole life here. I just
think some things are "silly" and will point them out. Here are some things
I love about Northampton: 1. Jack Frost Parade (coming up) 2. Community Days
3. Safe community (thanks to our fantastic police force) 4. Very friendly people
5. Roxy 6. Mario's hoagies 7. Modern and safe schools 8. Northampton Wresting
9. Metro and John's Cafe (actually Catty...oh well) 10. Borough's home page
has a Guestbook from Matt's Script Archive That's it for tonight. I have a lingering
thought about the new Northampton Municipal Authority headquarters. I'll wait
till tomorrow.

Will the borough please stop buying street light decoration for every holiday
and landscaping the Canal Street Park and please take care of the roads? Main
St. and Howertown Rd are horrible. I do notice that the less traveled roads
get new blacktop....I wonder where the councilmen live...maybe on the freshly
paved roads?

A well constructed Web page. Alot of useful information in an easily travled
site. The page is an excellent example of what other Boroughs should provide
as a service to the community.
