Northampton's Annual Street Fair
Northampton's Annual Street Fair was initiated by Carol
Simcoe in 1989 to generate interest in the town and
merchants.
Originally called the Renaissance Fair, the name was changed
in l991 to Northampton's Annual Street Fair to eliminate
confusion with a costumed jousting event. 2000 will
celebrate the 12th Annual Street Fair.
Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the event features
over 125 crafters and artisans, community service
organization booths, Lady Lynnavers Dress Shop presents
an exciting Fashion Show both days, polka bands, country
bands, historic displays, pony rides and strolling clowns &
musicians .... and don't forget the food. In addition to
hot dogs, sausage and ice cream, you will find pirogies,
halupkies, halusky, kielbasa and many other tasty treats.
The Street Fair is held the second full weekend of September
each year, with approval and cooperation of the borough.
This event is a fun-filled time for family members of all
ages and a great opportunity to meet old friends and catch
up on the years gone by.
According to Carol Marakovits, who coordinates the event,
there is a need for volunteers to help with some of the
organizational and set-up work. Most of the jobs will
require only 3 or 4 hours of work during the course of the
year, primarily the weekend of the event or a few weeks
prior to the weekend. Anyone interested in volunteering
should call the Street Fair at 261-1771.
